Veronica brought her horse Black Ebony out of stall and took her to the indoor area. Today was her first riding lesson with someone named Sebastian Holloway, she head about him around Black Rock Equestrian Academy that he was strict but an fair man. Veronica got on her horse to warm up while she waited for the riding instructor to make his grand entrance in the indoor area. So also that students was not to ride before an lesson but she couldn't wait to try out her new horse that her parents just brought her that weekend.

Sebastian made his way to the indoor arena, his typical lesson plan in mind. It was raining like mad, so he assumed his student, Veronica Hawk, would be indoors. When Sebastian had checked the book, he recognized her name from his Latin II class roster, though they hadn't had a class yet together, so it would be understandable if she didn't know him. He wouldn't know what she looked like, anyway. It appeared, in the overall lesson plans, that she would be riding "Black Ebony". Well, Sebastian had no clue who the hell that was, so he just assumed it was a new private horse.
When he got to the indoor arena, he saw a girl atop a black horse. Probably Veronica and Black Ebony. Foolishness. She probably didn't know the horse that well, yet here she was atop it alone during weather that could turn severe. He should chew her out. But he held back this time. Pulling up a plastic chair in the corner of the arena, Sebastian noticed the school lunge line and whip, thank goodness. He didn't feel like getting his own. Camilla trotted up beside him and plopped down, lying on the ground out of the way like a good girl. The bowl left out near the instructor's chair for the stable dogs was empty, so Sebastian poured some in from one of the three water bottles he brought in with him. He liked to be prepared.
"Hello, Veronica. I'm Mr. Holloway. I'm your instructor today -- and, as it happens, your Latin teacher for the rest of the year, at least." |
He narrowed his eyes briefly, and then widened them to their normal position and leaned back. "I think we know that you've been breaking some rules, set in place for safety, so we'll just move on." Preterition. Cicero would be proud. Sebastian swept on, "Since you've already warmed up, it appears, go to a trot. In toward X on the K through H long side, leg yield on the F through M long side, sitting on the A short side, and two-point on the C short side." Nobody said that Sebastian wasn't demanding. He required his riders and his students both to think and to multitask. If it seemed as if it was too much, then he would cool off. In fact, he rarely made his students do this for long, but he was irritated. Really, the reason he didn't tell her off was because he just harshly scolded a freshman who, it turned out, had not learned that picking a horse's hooves before and after a ride, at least, was essential to its health. Sebastian really wasn't in the mood for more fighting and squabbling and upbraiding. Regardless of student myths, not all teachers fed only off the misery and despair of students. Some of the, sometimes, also ate apples, a little known fact. This is mentioned not only for the humor but also for the fact that Sebastian took a bite into the Red Delicious apple he was holding, carried from the dining hall. Veronica jump an tiny bit she heard her riding instructor for the first time. "Hello sir."
as she turn horse to start what trot X to K then to H then to long side M she forgot to go to F then she finish the request she thought pass with flying color. Black Ebony was not even breathing hard of sweating. "How was that Mr. Holloway?" as she patting the horse neck. Then she smiled at Sebastian with her warm brown eyes. Even though Sebastian was strict, he also was a total pushover if somebody tried. A sap, a gullible, wanting-to-trust-everyone sort of fool, he often took on a great deal of work, usually more than he needed to. Right now, though, his plaid breeches were a bit in a twist, and he was feeling a little grumpy. He didn't want to let that affect his demeanor as an instructor, however; he just knew that this would make him a bit tougher. Subconsciously.
"How was that, Mr. Holloway?" Veronica asked, smiling at him. Sebastian met her eyes and replied, "Well. I think you might've forgotten about half of it already, Veronica. Something you should know about me is that, when I give instructions, they are to be followed until I tell you to stop. But that was just a bit of warming up for your mind there, so we'll move on. I don't know how well you know your horse here, and I certainly don't know her, so we'll be really gentle today." |
Camilla lifted her head briefly, and Sebastian's hand fell from the dirty, beaten arm of the plastic chair to stroke the dog, his eyes not leaving his student's nor his voice ceasing. "So, we'll continue. Do leg yields on the long sides and alternating two-point and sitting on the short sides." Veronica's last name was Hawk... she probably was related to that other Egyptian girl, and also the boy. They probably were siblings. It was sort of Sebastian's job to be at least familiar with faces and names at the school; he was, after all, a teacher and riding instructor. "And remember: don't stop until I say." Sebastian took another bite of his apple, taking care to block the juices with his hand before they dripped from his mouth. It really was a very nice apple. They probably grew them on campus; it would be smart to. He would have to remember that for any future pies he might make. Honestly, how had he not had an apple yet? But, though Sebastian might have been frolicking in glorious red orchards in his mind, his focus, both his front-of-the-brain focus and his outward focus, was on his student. While he pulled himself away from his momentary lapse about the apples, Sebastian pondered whether or not he would set up jumps or just ground poles. He didn't know either student or steed, so he'd just have to glean their skill levels and dispositions from the groundwork. [/div] NOTES: herpaderp | WORDS: 415 Template made by Rabiddog

Veronica rolled her eyes after she turn her horse to do what Mr. Holloway wanted her do after what she was told she had some spicey moves that she learned from her old riding riding instructors in the pass. Well he wanted her to keep moving until he said to stop so she kept riding Black Ebony. That when she notice the dog sitting by Sebastian who was sitting an beat up lawn chair. She kept on do her moves that she already learn in the pass 6 year of riding.

Sebastian observed Veronica. She knew how to leg yield already, it appeared, which was good. He assumed that she knew. Letting out a tiny breath, he unbuttoned his top button and ran a hand through his short hair. Private lessons weren't as long as group lessons, though Sebastian wanted to get the most out of his time here. Checking the clock on the wall, he saw that the lesson was only about halfway through.
No reason not to make light conversation (that would help him in the end). Sebastian called out, "So, Veronica, how long have you been riding, then?" |
It would just help him. This wasn't the sort of thing he was told in a "lesson briefing" (ha!, as if he even got those). He got a pair of names in a column under his name in a big old fat ledger-book. Student and steed, that was it, horse and rider. Veronica seemed like an independent girl with a wild streak, Sebastian could just tell already, but he couldn't tell on the horse yet. He knew his next questions, though he would wait for her response before he asked (after all, it was a conversation, not an interrogation): How long have you known Black Ebony? and How much can Black Ebony do? Those were questions that were important for Sebastian to know, after all. [/div] NOTES: blehhhh, this post was kinda rushed, I'm sorry | WORDS: 233 Template made by Rabiddog

Veronica was still riding horse as she add an fancy trick to her riding lesson that she came up with herself one day as she was practice alone in the indoor arena. When she heard Holloway asked "So, Veronica, how long have you been riding, then?" She stop her horse and looked at Mr. Holloway. "I been riding she I was four but lesson and stuff since I was six"
. Then she smiled at Holloway kindly. Veronica could tell her was mad or upset but she didn't known which at the moment.[/blockquote][/blockquote]

Ah, so she was one of those horse-family people. She did seem to know her way around a ring, certainly. Sebastian nodded when she replied and answered, "Been around horses your whole life, huh? How long have you had Black Ebony, then? Probably her whole life, too, right?" |
That was a nice enough way to try to slide in that he was seeking information. Sebastian added, though, lightly, "Don't stop just to talk to me. Multitask: ride and talk at the same time." If she was going to halt the lesson every time she responded to him, nothing would happen. Veronica seemed to be wanting to try out different things from what he was assigning her, so he decided to move on in his lesson plan. "Okay, so, Veronica, when you get to the other short side, sit and ask for a canter. Canter once around the ring and then bring her to a trot. We can take a quick walking break and switch directions." Switching directions meant same thing for the other side. He saw how she was going this way, but he wanted to see the other as well. Veronica smiled down at the horse. "This is my first time riding Ebony she came my home country Egypt where my father brought her an week ago."
The Veronica nodded and took galloped the short side of the indoor arena. Once there she brought the horse to an canter she went around the whole arena then she she enter center brought the horse to an trot and she brought the walk and switch direction. But Veronica didn't moving she kept on riding until Mr. Holloway added something else or yell at her making a mistake on something.[/blockquote][/blockquote]

Sebastian was rather taken aback when Veronica and Black Ebony galloped. Really, these two seemed to be getting along swimmingly. But it was the moment that all four of the horse's hooves were off the ground that he decided no jumping for today. They were too out of control. Glancing at his watch, he noticed that they had about a quarter of the lesson time left, he estimated.
Now that Veronica had turned around, Sebastian went back to giving directions. "Free walk from X on a diagonal to F. At F, gather your reins and return to a trot. Leg yield on the long sides and two-point in the short sides. I don't want to see anything fancy; this isn't about showing off what you can do or teaching you new tricks. Horseback riding isn't about tricks. It's about discipline. Sometimes, all you want to do is the canter circles and the flying lead changes, but during a dressage event, the course calls for other things -- such as these leg yields. I've been seeing Black Ebony's rear be slightly on a diagonal. It needs to be completely straight, remember, her entire body." |
Sebastian could have sounded extremely harsh, but he made certain to keep his voice gentle and kind, or he tried very hard. His words were still his words, however, and teenagers tended to be more sensitive, he noticed, to criticism, or whatever they perceived to be criticism. Actually, it wasn't just teenagers that did that. It was pretty much everyone. He would have them canter this direction, too. Good to see both leads on a horse. She seemed to be fairly obedient, at least, even if her rider wanted to show off. "I thought you were from Egypt," he continued, moving the conversation along. "Are you related to Akadeanna and Servat Hawk, then? Same last name, same country -- am I right, or am I being horribly offensive?" He laughed once to show that he was joking and he was trying to keep the mood lighthearted, even if he was serious about horsemanship. Veronica wanted to be a little smart with Mr. Holloway. "Sir yes sir."
and then she saluted at him as is she was in military and then she took off pass to do what he wanted her to do. When she was done with it she troted around the area waitinf for Holloway to asked her do something or punish her for being smart with Mr. Holloway. [/blockquote][/blockquote]

Oh, Veronica was trying to provoke him, Sebastian could just tell. Maybe "provoke" is too strong a word, but she wanted to get some sort of reaction, maybe to prove her right in any stories she might tell of his sternness or lack of fun abilities. Maybe she'll claim he was in a bad mood. Didn't much matter to him. "Hey, I like that. Maybe a career as a high-ranking military official is my true calling in life," |
he joked. "Good job. We're going to canter this direction now, and then do some gait transitions." Could that have been described as the "royal we"? Maybe not, considering it was more a "you" than an "I". He wasn't going to punish her or anything like that; she didn't officially do anything wrong. Maybe being a bit sassy, but that wasn't against any rules of which Sebastian knew. Actually, he found it almost relieving. She wasn't being mean, just, well, sassy. He could almost hear the fingers snapping. But this girl didn't seem like a Regina George, and he didn't really want to say anything -- and he wasn't particularly hurt by it. As he recalled, as well, she was going to be in his Latin II class; no need to get off on the wrong foot and make the entire year hell. Veronica nodded and charged direction and did the same thing she just did the other direction. She was getting little tried but she didn't want Holloway know she was getting tired. "What is your dog name?" Veronica loves dogs but her parents won't let her get dog because they are cat lover just as her sisterwas too, She prefer dogs over cats. "She or he is very cute."

As though Camilla knew somebody was talking about her, she stood up and stretched, dropping her jaw to let out a great big yawn, her pink tongue stretching and curling with her body. Sebastian patted her head and smiled. "Thank you. Her name's Cam. Camilla." |
It was nice of Veronica to ask. Sebastian's lesson plan was almost complete, as was the lesson time. He'd been doing lessons, both teaching and taking, for almost his entire life, so he had the timing pretty well down by now. "Okay, so, some transitions now. From trot to walk to trot to halt, that sort of thing. Keep her listening to you." Did he want to mention that this also was a good way to get a wild horse back under control? It was probably sort of important, though he didn't want to offend her with his assumption of ignorance. But Sebastian overcame his self-consciousness and decided safety first. "When riding a new horse, this is a good way to make her listen to you, know that you're the boss. If she's freaking out or spooking or whatever, this is good, too. Remember, just squeeze the reins and sit down in the saddle, wiggle the reins a little. Don't tug." That might've been a bit much, a bit more than just safety first, but whatever -- he was a teacher, an instructor. His job was to instruct; it actually was what paid the bills, it actually was his job. [/div] NOTES: blehhhrg | WORDS: 253 Template made by Rabiddog
